Fringed {Front Entrance} Table

Here is a perfect little table that I picked up from the Bibles for Mission thift store for only $10.00! I forgot to take a "before" picture. Too eager to get started I guess. So this is sanded with 120 grit paper and a sanding block for the curvy spots.

The wipe-down. Getting rid of all the leftover dust from sanding

Time to start-a-spraying! Probably not the best idea to spray paint in my basement.... but then again it is rather cold outside at the moment... and dark {good thing I love the smell of spray paint :)}

um spray paint is usually supposed to go on the table... ya not the hand...
spray paint can has a mind of its own seriously {after a round of dishes... still didn't come off :s}

This is how she looks after the first coat.

One more coat about 20 mins later.... and Voila!

Perfect Entrance way key/mail (sheep) table

Thanks for reading!

Thrift finds {odds and ends}

Cute candle holder. Value Village. $1.99

Cute yellow vase. I can't take credit for this find. I know that it is from Talize,but my cousin Beka actually grabbed it and I kinda took it into my home for a visit ;) Adds a nice pop of colour {to my very grey home}

Beautiful Tall Candle pedestals. $6.99 each. These were meant to be a Christmas gift for someone, but I got greedy and had to keep them :s
Lovely Table clothe only $2.99 from The Salvation Army Thrift Store

Whimsical {Vanity}

If this little vanity doesn't want to make you sit and stare at yourself in that cute little mirror all day, I don't know what would. Ok a little far fetched... but seriously probably my favorite thrift store find... so far. As far as the condition, it only has a couple minor scratches. I have played with the idea of painting it, for some reason can't. I think I will enjoy it in this state for a little longer. Until I feel like I need a new piece of furniture. Now I just need to find the perfect chair to go with it!!

{TOTAL COST}
$24.99
 {plus those little things called taxes of course}

Front entrance {Mirror}

Total score. I found this at a garage sale one summer. The person only wanted $5 for it. So, the bargainer in me of course wanted a better deal, as if that wasn't good enough. So, I asked if she would accept $3? Sure enough, she would. Turns out people mostly want to just get rid of stuff at garage sales, who knew?! :)

Little reminder that I have to give my mom credit for...

It never hurts to ask!

Any purpose {basket}

This was a "trash grab" item. One of my bosses cleaned out his garage and brought a whole bunch of stuff that was on its way to the garbage if no one claimed it. Who couldn't always use a good sized basket for something?!? Blankets for beside the couch, toys, mittens/hats/scarves... knitting stuff? :)  So I nabbed it and grabbed a handy-dandy can o spray paint. I used a cheapy one from Canadian Tire, I apologize the brand name I cannot remember, but it cost around $5 and I didn't even use a whole can.

{TOTAL COST}
 Free basket + $2.50 half can spray paint + 15 mins of my time= a wonderful any purpose basket.

Mustard yellow {Vase}

This treasure I found in a thrift store in Hamilton called Talize. If you are from around here, it is on  Upper James just off the linc. I think I only paid $6.99 for it. {Worth it}

Cheapy {Chic Chez}

{BEFORE}
Good 'ole Value Village!

Found a pair of these old-but-now-in-style-again chairs at Value Village. Best part is that they were only... ready for it... $12.99 EACH!! I love it when you stumble upon things like this. Awesome that there was 2 of them too and in great condition!! We found them before we  bought our house... so they lived in the basement/living area in my old house for a while. Although I liked them already how they were... I did do a little cleaning {the cushion covers came off quite easily} and some minor changes to modernize them a little more.

{Half-way}
{dont judge the mess... 5 girls one house enough said}

So... Sean and I set to work on cutting the skirts from around the bottom...made sure we left enough fabric to be stapled to the bottom of the chair.
Such a difference.

Now we have our very own house. These beautiful chairs make a great addition to our living room

TOTAL COST
2 Chairs @ $12.99 each

{Staples and Staple gun}

$26.00

Simple {sweet-treat} platters

Ok so my fiance Sean and I are currently planning a wedding.... but we also just bought a house... needless to say, money is non-existent. I really wanted to get tiered platters for cupcakes and treats for the dessert table at our wedding. They are quite pricey to buy brand new... so I decided to go a different way...

The plates I bought from the thrift store....the 2 on the left were $0.79 cents {smaller one} and $1.49 {bigger one}  and the oval plate was $1.99.

The base of the oval plate was a decorative candle holder for $0.50 and the middle of the two-tiered was a mini blush colour vase that was $0.99.

I apologize i didnt take any before pics... but basically all you need to do it finds some instant crazy glue. Preferably something that bonds well to ceramic. I used "instant Krazy glue" from Home Depot, it was around $3 but should last you a few smaller projects. Find the center of the plate by measuring... and stick it to 'em. I set mine with a very large book for about 15 minutes... and VOILA!! beautiful serving platters... the best thing is... I can use them at home after the wedding is over.

{TOTAL COST}

krazy glue $3 approx
3 plates from thrift store $4.27
mini vase $0.99
decorative candle holder $0.50

$8.76

Very {First} Post :)

Hi there. So this is my very first attempt at a blog... blogging? being a blogger?  :s ... don't know if I will be any good at it but here it goes anyway.

welcome to: "The Frugal Abode" This blog will be an attempt at showing ppl that your home can look like those homes that you see in magazines... and you don't have to spend a fortune.

My fiance and I just bought at house at the end of last year (2011) and it is starting to come together one room at a time after a couple months with the help of some (by some I mean a lot) of cleaning, some paint and some other odds and ends. Friends and family have been over... and like everyone who gets a new house... you do "The Tour". Ppl would ask where I got certain furniture and knick knacks... I started to realize that A lot of the things in our house i have found at the thrift store... or junk day... or antique shop....you get the idea.

So the reason behind all this is that I have seen so many awesome blogs that have inspired me and would like to try and do the same for others. And i also really wanted to use the word frugal cuz its a cool word. Hope that you enjoy!!
